Building a flyer

To get your flyer off the ground, you have to first narrow its focus.  Remember that it is just one sheet of paper and you cannot weigh it down with too many points.  What is the one thing that you want to tell people about?

Once you know precisely the thing that you want to communicate, decide what its three or four main advantages or stand-out attractions are.  Now, you have the skeleton for your flyer.

From this point you may opt to expand your main points into paragraphs if you are creating a data sheet.  Or, you may want to keep the text brief if you are making an advertising piece. 

Graphical elements and supporting photos are very important for a successful flyer.  These do a great deal of the communications work in what is essentially a split visual/informational document.

You may have both sides of the flyer on which to work.*  In this case, the standard practice is to create a more stylized and graphically dominant front side with a more textual back side.

*For dual-language flyers, confining each language to its own side of the paper may not always be the best practice.  Consider how this effects the overall impact of your flyer.
